Our kids, our travels, our work, our homes.
Those were some of the topics of discussion between Bob and I, Ann and Pam, as we drove from Massachusetts to Delaware today -- about a 5 hour drive.
We arrived at Dover about 3 p.m. Went to long-term parking at Dover AFB, where we said our good-byes to Ann and Pam, who headed back to their home in Rockville, Maryland. We returned our rental car, and picked up our own car, and went to billeting to see if there were any rooms.
We really lucked out! They had a Distinguished Visitor room -- often reserved for high-ranking military. Bob is a retired Navy lieutenant commander -- an 0-4 ranking, which does not usually qualify for this type of room. But at Dover, he did. So we got a suite of rooms, including bedroom, living room and full kitchen.
We were delighted, in part because we were very tired and it was nice to have a big, comfortable room. But also because tomorrow is our 38th wedding anniversary, so this was a nice "gift."
On Thursday, we drove the 6-7 hours home from Dover. There had been no rain since we left -- unusual for NY this time of year -- so all my plants and flowers and Bob's garden were very thirsty! It was also very hot -- 80-90 degrees -- so I got all the fans out and turned them on.
Thanks to Bob's daughter Mary Jane and her children, the dogs and cat are fine, as well as the pool.
Now it was time to cut the grass, and do all the wash! And catch up on sleep!
My next blog posting will be about the changes we found in Spain, since we were stationed there in the 1970s and since we went back to visit in the 1990s. Some of the technology we saw in Spain really amazed us, as well as the social and cultural changes.
