After breakfast, we drove into the city of Ronda and parked in an underground parking garage. We started walking towards the bullring, stopping at some shops along the way.
We bought Lisa a bracelet and Mary Jane a necklace. In another store, we bought 2 Spanish soccer shirts, one for Brian and one for me. We got toy castinets for Marina, and a wooden Pinocchio puppet for Chris. Also got a "mud doll" for Lisa, and later a CD for Nick.
We reached the old bullring, and walked around it, then walked to a park overlooking the area where homes and businesses cling to the side of an enormous rock wall, and all of this overlooks a broad green valley. It was absolutely beautiful! Adding to the beauty was the sound of a duo performing in a bandstand in the park, "Lucho and Leticia." Leticia played harp and sang, while Lucho played pipes. Listening to the music and looking out at the panoramic scene, Bob said he felt that God had created such a beautiful view. Then a man appeared pushing an elderly woman in a wheelchair, and Bob observed that it would be a beautiful scene to see before you die. We just sat there and took it all in and listened to the music while we soaked in the sun.
Nearby, horses and carriages took tourists on a ride around the bullring and park. There are lots of ancient buildings, churches and museums in Ronda, and there were lots of tourists walking around. For the first time in several days, we ran into some American tourists.
We walked back to our car. We had some trouble finding the parking garage, as the streets all look very similar, they change names mid-street, and the numbers don't run consecutively. We started driving back to Rota, enjoying more beautiful scenery along the way as we listened to a CD we bought from Lucho and Leticia.
We arrived at Rota about 6 p.m. The flight schedule at the base air terminal showed a C-5 departing the next morning for Martinsburg, W. Va., via Bangor, Maine. Martinsburg is about a 3-hour drive back to Dover, where we left our car. We now had to return our little rental car. We were able to get a room on base through the Gateway Inn/billeting. Our room had Wi-Fi, so were able to catch up with email and Facebook, etc., before hitting the sack.
Tomorrow, we see if we can get "Space-Available" seats on that C-5!
